Overtime, I have grown a strong appreciation for ballet and ballerinas. There are several reasons why I simply adore this genre of dance. The grace and fluidity of movement, the passion behind each step, the beautiful classical music, the overall feminine aura and of course the beautiful outfits/costumes. I mean, have you seen how gorgeous tutus are adorned with tulle and silk?

I am happy to say that that I've been consistent with doing my weekly online adult beginner ballet classes with Royal Academy of Dance (link to be a silver swan too) since the beginning of this month! As mentioned in the previous paragraph, one of the reasons why I love clothing ballerina's wear. Silly it may be, being able to dress in cute clothes make me motivated to dance! Who wouldn't want to wear leotards in pastel shades, with mini chiffon wrap skirts, ballet pink tights and satin shoes when you work out? Here is a video I found on YouTube of a young woman who also talks about her love for the ballet aesthetic (link).

Looking through countless photos of what ballerinas wore on and off stage, I became inspired to create a post on how to dress like them. All of these tips can still be applied to your everyday wardrobe even if you don't dance, but love the feminine look!

Easy tips on how to dress like a ballerina (even if you aren't one):

  1. Ballet Flats as choice of shoe- Ballet flats are a classic type of shoe that everyone should own that has a girly sense of style. These ones with the bow are absolutely adorable from Pretty Ballerinas!

  2. Throw your hair in a bun with silk scrunchies- Dancer's typically keep their hair up in bun since it is practical and also looks very elegant. Wear these lovely scrunchies when you put your hair in a bun, they are made from real Mulberry silk and come in three muted colors.

  3. Add ballet pink to your color palette- Pink is a signature color that is used often in ballet from the satin pointe shoes to the tights. Ballet pink is described as a soft light shade of pink. You could wear the color in small doses by wearing Essie's nail polish in "Ballet Slippers" or in big doses like this beautiful taffeta Self Portrait dress!

  4. Wear mini wrap skirts- Chiffon wrap skirts are commonly worn during ballet practice over leotards. Wear a cute mini wrap skirt with pretty blouses, strappy tank tops or cozy sweaters. How lovely is it in powder blue?

  5. Wear a wrap cardigan- Wrap cardigans are forever affiliated with a ballerina's uniform. They are a nice throw on piece that looks elegant to keep warm. I imagine this cashmere one feels like a dream.

  6. Wear pastel body suits and leggings- No matter if you're working out or simply just lounging, wearing pastel workout wear will make you feel like it's time for your next ballet lesson. This pale blue body suit is flattering with the square neckline. Tuck it in with this pair of blush pink leggings to complete the outfit!

  7. Put on leg warmers- Just do it. Leg warmers are versatile by keeping your ankles warm by tucking them to either in your boots, tennis shoes or with your pointe shoes.

I hope you felt inspired to add a touch of the ballet aesthetic to your everyday outfits! I enjoyed observing the fabrics, silhouettes, styles and colors that makes up the beautiful wardrobe for a dancer. What style tips are you interested in trying? XOXO

It was forever ago since the last time I had a sleepover with friends. We would watch movies, order pizza and played games such as Cards Against Humanity and Just Dance on the Wii. Now that I'm older, I thought would be a cute idea to have a glam sleepover (technically a pamper night in by myself due to Covid 19) inspired by Old Hollywood Regency style from the 1940s and 1950s. Think of wearing silk robes, delicate chemises and fancy slippers while eating chocolate covered strawberries and doing your skincare routine in your boudoir.

The idea came from LoveShackFancy's recent collaboration with luxury pajamas brand, Morgan Lane last month. It was also inspired by Old Hollywood Glamour, specifically with Jayne Mansfield's famous Pink Palace.

Below is a collage that features pretty essentials for any girly sleepover that Elizabeth Taylor, Marylin Monroe, Cyd Charisse, Audrey Hepburn and others alike would approve. There is also a list of some classic movie suggestions to watch to feel like a starlet.

Once you're all dolled up, bring out some champagne, pop some popcorn and watch one of these classic Hollywood movies while you put on a face mask:

  1. Paris Blues 1961 (really want to see it Diahann Carroll is in it!)

  2. Sabrina 1954 (also want to watch LOOK AT HER GIVENCHY DRESS)

  3. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 1953 (this too)

  4. Silk Stockings 1957

  5. The Swan 1956

  6. Gilda 1946

  7. Funny Girl 1968

  8. Father of the Bride 1950

No matter what you decide to wear or watch, please take time out to pamper yourself sometimes. You deserve it. XOXO

Happy New Years to everyone! 2020 has been a whirlwind of a year for all of us. From social events such as the spread of COVID 19 and the highly anticipated US election, to personal events such as starting my fashion blog and graduating from Kent State University. This blog post is particularly special to me because my first ever blog post was about my goals and resolutions for 2020. I remember feeling nervous, yet proud for creating my first post that was personal to me. So to celebrate, I am excited to share my new 2021 dream board!

Here is my first post from last year if you want to check it out: https://jilliantaylorblog.wixsite.com/jilliantaylor/post/my-goals-for-2020

*All the images are from Pinterest

  1. Getting my drivers license- Yes you read that right. I am a 23 recent college graduate and I don't have my drivers license...yet. It's embarrassing to admit, I know. Not proud of it. I've been trying for years on and off. I'm either really busy, feeling lazy and there is my fear of not being in control of a large vehicle, crash and die. It was actual my goal for 2020, but unfortunately it didn't happen. Now I'm determined now then ever to get it this year hopefully.

  2. Relearning French- Back in high school, I studied French for three years. Since I was a little girl, I always dreamt of visiting Paris. I really thought we would go to France for a class field trip, but that didn't happen sadly. If you went up to to me right now and asked me to speak French, all I could say is "Bonjour, je m'appelle Jillian". When I do go to visit Paris, France one day, I'd love to understand and communicate properly. It is such a beautiful language.

  3. Learn Ballet-For years, I have admired the way how ballerina's danced. Their moves are always so fluid and graceful, toes always pointed with great posture while wearing gorgeous tutus. Although I'm no the athletic type what so ever, I think ballet would be a lovely hobby to take up. I felt incredible inspired when I started watching Ballet with Jojo on Youtube. She is an incredible ballerina who didn't start ballet until she was 23 (like me!) and encourages adults that is never too late to start. My dear friend Tayma who is doing adult ballet and the amazing Raven Wilkinson has also inspired me. Plus, learning ballet will also help with my French lessons.

  4. Create a new Pinterest page for the blog- Pinterest has always been one of my favorite platforms to draw inspiration for my blog and personal life. When I did my remote internship last summer, one of my tasks was to figure out how to expand the brand by utilizing marketing techniques on Pinterest. I have also read that Pinterest is a great platform for bloggers to grow their brand. Although I already have an account, but it's more for personal use and it's not properly organized. So, my goal is to create a new Pinterest page dedicated to my blog so people can see and save on what I have posted. Once the account is created, I will make an announcement on Instagram!

  5. Buy bouquets of pink roses- As you may know, blush pink roses are my favorite type of flower ever. It was last summer when I bought my first bouquet for a photo shoot at the rose garden. I did not realize how much it made a difference of having fresh flowers sitting at the table. They looked so pretty sitting there and I enjoyed seeing them fully bloom over time. It is a goal to try to buy pink roses more often. I'm not going to wait for a lover to surprise me with a bouquet, I will buy my own damnit.

Just want to quickly say thank you to everyone who has supported my blog, Jillian Taylor. One thing I was very happy about in 2020 was finally creating the blog. It means such much to me to find a community of lovely people who adores feminine fashion, florals and the color pink as much as I do. The one year anniversary of the blog is coming up very soon (Jan 22) and I can't wait to celebrate with you darlings!

What are your goals and resolutions for 2021? XOXO
